The CILEX Conference took place on Thursday 13 November and was a resounding success, bringing together 116 delegates from across the profession for a day of learning, connection and forward-thinking discussion. The atmosphere from the moment delegates arrived was one of energy, solidarity and optimism, with members clearly valuing the opportunity to come together at such a pivotal time for the CILEX community.

While many attendees understandably had questions about the Mazur ruling and its ongoing impact, we ensured these were addressed early in the day through a dedicated update session. This allowed delegates to gain clarity, feel heard, and then move forward into the rest of the agenda with confidence and focus. From that point on, the tone across the conference shifted to one of deep engagement, curiosity and empowerment.

We were privileged to host an exceptional line-up of speakers who brought a rich diversity of experience and insight to the stage. Highlights included:

  • Minister Sarah Sackman KC MP, who offered a powerful perspective on the future of legal services and the role of CILEX professionals within a modern justice system.

  • Judge Fiona Monk, delivering an inspiring keynote on seizing opportunities, followed by a practical workshop on judicial pathways.

  • Mary Prior KC, whose reflections on breaking barriers, professional ethics and courage resonated strongly with delegates.

  • Career Coach Anna Manning, Elizabeth Rimmer (LawCare) and Barbara Hamilton-Bruce, formed an outstanding panel chaired by Sara Fowler, exploring resilience, integrity, confidence and the evolving identity of legal professionals.

  • David Opie from Today’s Media, Sarah Sangster from SANX, Sam Higgins from Hays and Alan King from AI.Your.Org, each offering practical and forward-looking insights into technology advancements, communication, professional development and personal brand and how to stand out in the legal market.

Throughout the day, the feedback—both in person and across social media—was incredibly positive. Delegates shared that they left feeling energised, motivated and proud, with many noting that they had made new connections, gained valuable insights and felt deeply supported by the wider CILEX community.

The strength of feeling in the room—and the conversations happening long after sessions ended—show just how important and valued this event is for our members. It was truly a day that showcased the best of CILEX.
