A Non-Traditional Start: From office junior to Partner
Joanna’s career began far from the traditional graduate-entry path. At just 18, she decided not to pursue full-time university and instead, with the desire to gain hands-on experience she entered the profession as an office junior.

From those early days, she moved steadily through roles as a legal secretary, paralegal, fee earner, associate, senior associate and ultimately Partner – all while studying CILEX
Choosing CILEX: A Pathway Built on Merit, Ability and Practical Learning
At aged 18, Joanna began the CILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law, later progressing onto the Level 6 Professional Diploma in Law, specialising in Tort, Contract Law, Company and Partnership Law and Civil Litigation.
Choosing CILEX was intentional and transformational, and this route allowed Joanna to build strong technical foundations while simultaneously developing practical skills – drafting, researching, advisory work – directly within the workplace.

Today, Joanna specialises in complex, high-value financial services and crypto-asset litigation, working at the forefront of an emerging and rapidly evolving area of law.
“I’m passionate about shaping legal principles in an emerging and often misunderstood sector and showcasing that CILEX lawyers are not only part of the evolution but leading it.”
She has played a leading role in cases that have resulted in landmark judgments in digital asset disputes, helping set the framework for how courts address crypto-related claims.
This is an area where innovation, adaptabilities and deep analytical skills are essential – qualities Joanna has built throughout her CILEX journey.
Progression and Recognition: From Scholarship to Standalone Rights
During her career, Joanna has continued to invest in her development while balancing full-time work and raising two young children.
One of her most significant milestones has been gaining her standalone practice rights, giving her autonomy to lead matters, supervise teams and provide reserved legal activities.
She has also earned consistent recognition in the profession.
