A Non-Traditional Start: From office junior to Partner

Joanna’s career began far from the traditional graduate-entry path. At just 18, she decided not to pursue full-time university and instead, with the desire to gain hands-on experience she entered the profession as an office junior.

“My journey into law has been anything but linear, and that is something I’m deeply proud of.”

From those early days, she moved steadily through roles as a legal secretary, paralegal, fee earner, associate, senior associate and ultimately Partner – all while studying CILEX

Choosing CILEX: A Pathway Built on Merit, Ability and Practical Learning

At aged 18, Joanna began the CILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law, later progressing onto the Level 6 Professional Diploma in Law, specialising in Tort, Contract Law, Company and Partnership Law and Civil Litigation.

Choosing CILEX was intentional and transformational, and this route allowed Joanna to build strong technical foundations while simultaneously developing practical skills – drafting, researching, advisory work – directly within the workplace.

“I wanted real world experience, real clients and real responsibilities from the start. CILEX gave me an accessible, respected route that combined academic study with hands-on professional growth.”

  • - disciplined time management
  • - strong organisation and attention to detail
  • - resilience and self-motivation
  • - the ability to work under pressure
  • - confidence in handling complex cases.

Balancing full-time work and study strengthened her ability to thrive in demanding environments.
